Scottish Terrier dogs were developed in Great Britain and appeared in the United States in 1883. The breed gradually gained popularity as it made a good watchdog and affectionate companion. After World War II, the Scottish Terrier's popularity decreased. Nowadays, the breed is ranked 43rd according to the AKC.

The Scottish Terrier Club of America takes care of the welfare of the breed by educating Scottish Terrier breeders and owners and organizing special events. It sponsors 2 conformation shows, an obedience trial, an agility event, and some other events. They can talk about their beloved Scotties for hours and agree that the breed is one of the most wonderful of creatures. It is playful and affectionate with all family members and likes to be the center of attention.
When one comes to think about the Scottish Terrier dog features that provided for much popularity, one cannot but mention the breed's outstanding temperament qualities. It is sometimes referred to as a very moody breed. The range of its behaviors is diverse and may be surprising even to people who have been around the breed for quite a time.
The Scottish Terrier dog is suited for people of all ages for it is lovable and energetic. Meanwhile, the breed does not need much exercise and is OK with a small yard. When training a Scottish terrier dog, be gentle, as the breed is very sensitive and can be easily hurt. Overall, Scottish Terrier dogs are wonderful companions that gladden their owners and return love and affection absolutely.
